Thierry BESSON

Professeur des Universités (CE2)

Heterocycles team

BIOGRAPHY

Thierry Besson obtained his PhD (1989-1992) from the University of Orleans (France), where he worked on the synthesis of bifunctional coumarins. He immediately joined the group of Professor Charles W. Rees at Imperial College London, where he stayed until his integration as assistant professor at the new University of La Rochelle at the end of 1993. In September 1999, he was promoted as Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Faculty of Science in La Rochelle until 2006, when he was nominated as Full Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Faculty of Health in Rouen-Normandy. Since 1994, his research is focused on the use of microwaves for the heating of organic reactions in relation to sustainable processes. He is also developing heterocyclic reagents (e.g. Appel salt) applied to the synthesis of bioactive heterocycles, kinase inhibitors, mainly involved in neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.
